Privacy Policy

TrackNotes ("the App") is developed and operated by TrackNotes Audio ("we", "us", or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the App.
1. Information We Collect
TrackNotes is designed with privacy as a core principle. We minimize data collection wherever possible.
1.1 Manuscripts and Documents
When you import a DOCX or PDF file, the document is stored locally on your device. We do not upload, transmit, or access your manuscripts. All document processing (parsing, text extraction, and comment injection) happens entirely on your device.
1.2 Voice Notes and Recordings
When you record a voice note, the audio is captured using your device's microphone and processed using Apple's on-device speech recognition. The audio recording is used solely to generate a text transcription and is not stored after the transcription is complete. The transcribed text is saved locally on your device as part of your manuscript annotations.
1.3 Text-to-Speech
The App offers two text-to-speech options:
- Built-in (Apple) voice: All processing happens on-device. No text is transmitted externally.
- Google Cloud Text-to-Speech: If you choose this option, the text of the manuscript paragraph currently being read is sent to Google's servers for speech synthesis. This is necessary to generate the audio. Google's use of this data is governed by Google Cloud's Privacy Notice. You can switch to the built-in voice at any time to avoid any external data transmission.
1.4 Audio Cache
When using Google Cloud Text-to-Speech, synthesized audio is cached locally on your device to reduce repeated network requests. You can clear this cache at any time from the App's Settings screen.
1.5 Usage Data
The App tracks playback time locally on your device for the purpose of managing subscription tier limits. This data is stored only on your device and is not transmitted to us or any third party.
2. Information We Do Not Collect
We do not collect, store, or have access to:
- Your name, email address, or any personal identifiers
- Your manuscripts or their contents
- Your voice recordings or transcriptions
- Analytics, crash reports, or usage telemetry
- Location data
- Device identifiers or advertising IDs
The App does not require an account to use. There is no sign-up or login process.
3. In-App Purchases
TrackNotes offers optional subscription plans through Apple's App Store. All purchase transactions are handled by Apple and are subject to Apple's Privacy Policy. We do not receive or store your payment information. We receive only a confirmation of your subscription status from Apple's StoreKit framework, which is processed on your device.
4. Third-Party Services
The App integrates with the following third-party services:
- Apple Speech Recognition: On-device speech-to-text for voice note transcription. Configured to run entirely on-device; no audio is sent to Apple's servers.
- Google Cloud Text-to-Speech: Optional cloud-based voice synthesis. Only the text of the current paragraph is sent when this engine is selected. No personal data is transmitted.
- Apple StoreKit: In-app purchase and subscription management, handled entirely by Apple.
5. Data Storage and Security
All app data — manuscripts, voice note transcriptions, progress, and settings — is stored locally on your device within the App's sandboxed storage. This data is protected by your device's passcode and iOS data protection. We have no ability to access data on your device.
If you delete the App, all locally stored data is permanently removed.
6. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since the App does not collect personal information from any user, there is no special risk to children's privacy.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
